Gabriela Garza is honored to serve as an assistant principal at Reilly Elementary. She looks forward to a year filled with wonderful learning experiences. As a social justice leader, she is an advocate for culturally and linguistically diverse instructional practices as it relates to literacy, language acquisition, and inclusive programs for all students.

She holds a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Policy from the University of Texas at Austin, Texas Principal Leadership Academy. Upon acceptance into the Austin ISD Principal Residency program, she served as a principal resident during the 2021-2022 school year. During her residency, she collaborated with principals and leadership teams to meet the unique academic needs of emergent bilinguals and implement professional development related to evidence-based instructional strategies for literacy and language acquisition.

She began her career in education as a bilingual and dual language educator and has served as a Literacy Lead, Campus Innovation Coach (CIC), Lead Mentor Teacher Contact (LMTC), curriculum design support, and completed the Austin ISD Literacy Leadership Pathway.

Gabriela holds another Master’s degree from the Butler School of Music at the University of Texas at Austin. Music has greatly influenced her work and instilled a commitment to excellence, dedication, and perseverance for creating quality learning spaces for all learners. She values diversity, authentic partnerships, and cultivating a sense of belonging in the school community as this creates a space where everyone can feel acknowledged, valued, and seen.

Gabriela enjoys reading, spending time with family, exploring French and Spanish films, and playing the piano. She is an avid reader of Julio Cortáza's work and loves to play music by Chopin.
