Special Education

Special Education is one provision of a continuum of child-centered educational and supportive services available in AISD. An Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) Committee comprised of the student’s parents, teachers, administrators, and other support staff determines the appropriate Individual Educational Plan (IEP) for each child in Special Education. A students’ IEP is managed by a Special Education Teacher, in collaboration with a General Education Teacher.

Special Education students are generally served in the inclusive setting of a regular classroom, and can also receive services in a resource classroom setting as well. Special Education laws require that school districts provide a free and appropriate public education (FAPE) to qualified students. If you believe your child is in need of special services, please speak with your child’s teacher or an administrator.
